Building an Easy Boulder Retaining Wall 🪨
There are all types of retaining walls but in this video we used boulders and some filter fabric as a simple way to build a small retaining wall on our hillside.

Soundproofing Between Floors and Walls 🤫🔇
Просмотров 11 тыс.28 дней назад
Sound control is often overlooked during construction. Yet it is a small investment to help minimize sound transfer in walls and through floors. While there are many different ways to dampen the sound, in this video we go over the steps that we took to help do so in this house. Should we have just TORN it down?
Просмотров 12 тыс.2 месяца назад
This project is growing every day. We have excavated the backyard and put in retaining walls, lifted the entire house and reworked the foundation, completely reframed the interior, completely re-sheathed the exterior and are now completely redoing the plumbing, electrical, and HVAC. Is it all worth it? We will see in the end! SUPPORT ROGUE ENGINEER Buy a shirt: bit.ly/rogueSHOP Shop on Amazon: ...
We moved the Staircase!! (and I really screwed up 😬)
Просмотров 80 тыс.3 месяца назад
The layout of this house when we bought it was a bit wonky. With the stairway in the middle of the house it really blocked the lake view for most of the downstairs. Plus it made the layout upstairs not very efficient. Since we are completely gutting this house I figured we mide as well frame out some new walls and move the staircase to create a more open and effective layout. To move the stairs...
Turning our Basement into an IGLOO Cooler! 🔥
Просмотров 18 тыс.4 месяца назад
We knew we needed to insulate the basement since it will be our main living space with kitchen and living room. After some research we came across a product from InSoFast that would do just that. Not only is it R-15.9 continuous insulation but the studs are built into it, as well as electrical raceways, and the panels simply get glued to the walls! We also decided to insulate the slab with the ...
Installing Doors & Windows ... in a Concrete Wall 🪟
Просмотров 17 тыс.6 месяцев назад
With the harsh Michigan winter looming right around the corner we needed to get the doors and windows installed fast. However, installing windows and doors into a concrete wall was new to me. Figuring out how to flash the windows into the concrete block and seal the openings required a bit of research. Luckily I found the perfect flashing tape for the job. SIGA Fentrim is perfect for adhering t...
Low Ceilings!?! We RAISED the ENTIRE HOUSE!
Просмотров 117 тыс.6 месяцев назад
The first level of our 1940s lake house was way to short. Coming in at only 6’8” and 6’0” under the beam. To make this ceiling an appropriate height we decided to lift the entire second level and add 2ft to the foundation. While doing that we also cut in bigger windows and patio doors as well as strengthening the foundation itself before setting it back down. This was such a cool process and in...
How to Fix Sagging Floor Joists
Просмотров 43 тыс.6 месяцев назад
The 2nd story floor on one side of our 1940s lake house renovation had a noticeable low spot in the middle of it. This was due to cracked and sagging floor joists that were exposed when we demoed the interior. While some of the joists were just sagging due to a weak floor system in general, some had holes too close to the edge or a big knot that caused a crack and really weakened the joist, put...
How to Build A TIMBER Retaining Wall [What's Behind the Wall?]
Просмотров 74 тыс.7 месяцев назад
We had two big retaining walls to build and concrete block was out of our budget. Using 6x6 landscape timbers is a much more affordable option but the lifespan is less than that of concrete. After a ton of research I was able to come up with the construction plan to help mitigate water damage with drain lines and proper backfill, extending the lifespan, as well as build a structurally sound ret...

I recently came across a really insightful video discussing the cost-effectiveness of converting golf carts to lithium batteries, specifically highlighting Vatrer's products. The video broke down the long-term savings and performance enhancements that can be expected from switching from traditional lead-acid batteries. From what I gathered, Vatrer's lithium batteries seem to offer not only a lighter weight profile which could potentially improve cart handling but also boast a longer life span and faster charging times. The presenter did a great job explaining how these features could benefit regular golfers and those managing large fleets of golf carts. I'm seriously considering upgrading my own cart to a Vatrer lithium battery and was wondering if anyone here has already made the switch? I'm curious about real-world experiences, particularly around longevity and maintenance. Any feedback or tips would be greatly appreciated!

The wife here. Our little french bulldog always steals hubby's kitchen chair, so he wanted a bench for the two of them. I found your video. I was a little confused because math is not my strong suit, and I'm a tactile learner so I got lost a few times. Because this piece is going in my kitchen, I've super sanded the seat and front edge real smooth so those two don't get hurt. Thanks for the video but unfortunately I didn't have the luxury of skipping over to your pinned link. Hope hubby likes his father's day gift!! Thank you kindly, Ms. Jo.

Peace to you brother, I printed the plans for the bench and blindly made all the cuts per plan. That's what prompted me to comment. On page 7 of 13 in the printable directions, the illustration shows what I perceive as the taper cut for the back as being laid out from the long point of the 20 degree top cut. That's what I did only to discover on assembly that is incorrect. After that I reviewed the video, which I can't do in the barn where I'm building the bench I see you specify the short point side. arriving at my local lumber store at 4:55 I got a replacement board as to finish the job this evening. Has Anyone else made this mistake? I'll reverse the cuts on the bottom and make a couple of lower back benches perhaps as to not waste the wood.

**SO MUCH WRONG WITH THIS VIDEO--USER BEWARE**. no wonder us landscapers are always getting the hairy eye ball. Listen up kiddos. Wall base should be 10 to 12 inch minimum thinckness. base should protrude no less than 6 inches from face of wall creating a ---->FOOTING<---- first course should have been laid on lime stone screenings, sand , concrete powder or a combination depending on climate. Geogrid IS NOT ROLLED DOWN THE WALL. the tensile strength of geogrid is down the length of the roll. pieces should have been cut to desired length and turned. also it is incorrect to have geogrid 'as far back as your wall is tall'. its simple math 0.8x height of wall = not a dumby. most geogrid rolls have instructions.. if youre reading this... read them! keep geogrid tight, yes, BUT also ---->level<---- from the back of wall to the geogrids end. 'Angle of repose' sounds professionally fancy but does not depict where the geogrid should be placed in the wall. Refer to the spec sheet for the product being used. in this case it is unilock's 'pisa II'. Unilock requires geogrid to be placed every 3 vertical feet, as pisa II was engineered to not exceed 3 feet in height. even with the placement of geogrid a height of 23' is the maximum tolerance. DO NOT 'pitch' a wall back. The 'tongue and groove' ( theyre called 'Keys' BTW) wall systems are not designed to pitch, especially backward. you are potentially creating a fail, i say i say, yet another fail point for the wall as the keys will not engage as designed. furthermore if the coping 'pitched' backward, its just a matter of time before water errosion starts against the back of the coping and then bye bye hard work, money and dignity. why tapered block are being used.. on sale perhaps? pisa comes in standard block as well. get the product that is fit for purpose, then you dont have gravel on the interior of your wall system..... holding it together. Im not sure about the adhesive.. i have yet to use that style. good old PL premium for the win. Or some sort of brick stop adhesive. he says youre gunna save a ton of money? dont listen to 95% of the advice in this video or that will be yet another uneducated lie. this is a disgrace to the hardscape gods! good luck with your shi**y wall building!!!!

You didn't take tree growth into consideration. Laid block by its nature is not monolithic. Those roots in search for water will follow the path of least resistance. That wall going to need repair in less than three years and a few winters. Now adhesives, that is just a joke, once they dry out they are done. Rome was built of concrete for a reason. All the Roman plastic, lol, it did exist are just powder today. Sap, shellac, pitch, tar are all natural plastics.

I’m really enjoying your series. I’m curious are the kids going to use the guest bathroom or go downstairs? I think the tray ceiling is a cool idea. Are you going to install LEDs to light it up? Could be a romantic touch. 😃

Thank you! The kids will be using the bathroom upstairs as the bathroom downstairs is just a 1/2 bath. And I do intend to light up the tray ceiling but I'm still trying to figure it out because I don't want to do the old school crown moulding with rope light in it. Thinking some recessed LED tape lighting for a clean look.

I always like well organised system like yours. Just few things to improve. Use the real cyclone (like Oneida Super Dust Deputy) what captures way more fine dust than the bucket system used now. Your filter stays way longer clean. Don't use that hose reel with high airflow/low pressure system. System you have needs minimum at 4" diameter pipe. Hose reel will suffokate your dust collector. It works best with the shop vac. I hope you didn't mind my tips :)
